Electronic Prescription Service – Promote the benefits at your GP practice

The NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is now available in a large number of GP practices. The EPS enables prescribers, such as GPs and practice nurses, to send prescriptions electronically to a dispenser of the patient’s choice. This makes the prescribing and dispensing process more efficient and convenient for patients and staff and has a range of benefits to practices, including:

    • Being able to process prescriptions more efficiently
    • Having greater control of the prescription
    • Spending less time dealing with prescription queries

Duncan Graham, Communications Manager at NHS Digital has used the Envisage waiting room TV system to advise patients of this new service and he explains the benefits this provides:

“The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is being switched on in around 70 practices each week so we were interested in effective ways to get a short but important message over to patients in a timely way. We didn’t want to raise the expectations of patients who couldn’t get the service yet, so allowing a practice to decide when to show the video, usually from eight weeks before they start to offer the service, is ideal. Using a waiting room information system is a great way to communicate with patients and its saves the practice time explaining it to every patient.”

You can promote the EPS by downloading our new video and adding it to your Envisage playlist, or for more information about Envisage for your surgery please call 0114 2433896 or email sales@numed.co.uk
